That Which We Call a Rose.

Shakespeare knew. "That which we call a rose, by another name would smell as sweet."

The beautiful rose.  There is probably no other flower more symbolic of romance.  Yet, its various colours purportedly convey not just the message of love but many other sentiments as well.

The gentle soft pink speaks to appreciation, grace and admiration, while white reflects purity and innocence.  Appropriately the sunny yellow represents joy, gladness and new beginnings, while orange is desire and enthusiasm.

However, when it is love and passion that one hopes to inspire they need look no further than the elegant red rose.

A Profusion of Flowers

Stopping at a market this past weekend, I was captivated by the fetching display of assorted bouquets and plants. With summer gardens a bittersweet memory it was nice to be reminded that the only thing better than a beautiful flower is a profusion of them.

Fall lovely

The perfect flower for autumn, rich in hues of crimson, orange, yellow and gold, beautiful mums grace porches, gardens and decks. As leaves fall, their glorious colour brings warmth to the crisp, cool days. They are a final stroke from nature's brilliant palette before winter spreads its austere backdrop.

The Happy Flower

A lovely young woman I once knew,  whose dimpled smile and vivacious laugh charmed all who met her,  had no problem explaining why her favourite flower was the preferred choice for any bouquet.   "It's such a happy flower," she'd say.  To this day I can never see a daisy and not think of her.   So here's a smile for all the people who could use a little sunshine in their lives.

Golden Sunflower

A walk down country roads this past weekend was intoxicating — crisp air, azure sky and brilliant foliage. We may not look forward to the blank palette that follows this season, but autumn itself is an exhilarating infusion of colour. This week's flower photo is a final glimpse of one of the latest garden blooms, as sunny and golden as dramatic fall.
